This came into my inbox: 2015 October Platform Challenge (link). I almost deleted it. Almost. Then the voice on my left shoulder (we’ll call him Muninn) cawed, “You have been wanting to work on this skill as long as I can remember.” Not to be outdone, the voice on my right shoulder, (let’s just say he’s named Huginn) cackled, “I really think you should do this.”
So sleeves up, I am committed to this month of daily challenges! Here goes…
2015 October Platform Challenge: Day 9 – Create an Editorial Calendar
The instructions for today are: “…create an editorial calendar for your blog.”
Son of a monkey truckin’ uncle! ARGH! It pains me to put a commitment like this down, because it pains me to admit how much of my life is NOT under my control.
“You’re going to admit that publicly?” asks Huginn.
“You’ve always seemed like you know what you’re doing,” cajoles Muninn.
“Look, bird-brains…” I begin.
“Watch your tongue, mortal! WE have Odin’s ear,” Huginn admonishes harshly.
I take a moment to gather my thoughts. “Yes. Okay, that is part of it. Also, I’m worried nobody will give a damn about what I have to say.”
“That didn’t seem to stop you from writing a novel,” reminds Muninn.
Huginn nods, “Precisely! So commit to posting a bit of fiction once a week. Nobody said you had to write Pulitzer-quality news articles.”
I ponder that.
“Just remember, you have a mail-list. It’s a perfect way for you to share small bits of news because you are doing things worth mentioning.” Muninn adds.
I ponder some more. They stare at me, unblinking.
Huginn tilts his head to the side.
“Okay,” I relent. “How about I publish something wee and fictional every Wednesday, and send out my newsletter – rain or shine – Friday?”
The birds look at me for a moment, assessing my commitment.
“Wow,” Huginn shruffles his feathers, “I actually believe him.”
Muninn merely nods knowingly, “hindsight will be the best judge of character.”
