2015 October Platform Challenge: Day 26 – Make a Task List

This came into my inbox: 2015 October Platform Challenge (link). I almost deleted it. Almost. Then the voice on my left shoulder (we’ll call him Muninn) cawed, “You have been wanting to work on this skill as long as I can remember.” Not to be outdone, the voice on my right shoulder, (let’s just say he’s named Huginn) cackled, “I really think you should do this.”

So sleeves up, I am committed to this month of daily challenges! Here goes…

2015 October Platform Challenge: Day 26 – Make a Task List

*****

The instructions for today are: “Make a Task List” (for each day in November)

Muninn beams, “Finally! A challenge worthy of my attention!”

Huginn rolls his eyes, “How droll.”

I snicker. It’s nice to see them at odds over something instead of united against me. “This is pretty easy, to be fair. Much of my month is already planned out.”

“Boring,” Huginn turns away and starts fiddling with dice.

Muninn steeples his wingtip feathers, “Let’s begin, shall we?”

“Yes!”

“Well, I’m only supposed to note when I’m working on tasks specific to my career, right? I mean, nobody cares about the other stuff.”

“Boring!”

“Don’t listen to him,” Muninn steers me away from his companion, “he just found out that part of Logic is the Rejection of Logical Truths. He won’t be useful at all today.”

Huginn waves a hand dismissively, “I reject you.”

Muninn cocks an eyebrow, “See? Shall we continue?”

Muninn whistles low, “You really are quite busy.”

“Tell me about it,” I nod, “And adding NaNoWriMo to the mix is going to be the kicker.”

“SO DUMP THE SCHEDULE AND WING IT!” Huginn shouts from his dark corner. I can barely make out a giant red dragon figurine poorly hidden behind his back.

“Huginn, buddy, what’re you doing with that dragon?” I have to ask.

“What? Nothing. Go back to your man-bird-bondage-boringness.” He hastily spins and I hear the large figurine hit the board rather hard. A smaller figurine topples over. “I reject you too, paladin!” He mumbles as he rights the character.

I lean in to Muninn, “Is the embodiment of thought really playing D&D against himself?”

Muninn nods, “Be glad he’s thinking adventurous thoughts and not amorous ones! Now… you’re barely halfway through the month. Continue please.”

Muninn looks concerned, “I worry that your NaNoWriMo goal is too aggressive.”

“I’ve maintained that pace before,” I justify.

“I remember,” Muninn nods. He’s still worried. “But you weren’t holding down the day job and producing audiobooks.”

“That’s fair,” I nod. “However, I had other obligations in previous years that are no longer in my life. It’s a pretty fair trade of focus and hours.”

Huginn cackles to himself, “Take that, sucker! Roll a saving throw…”

Muninn merely shakes his head, “We’re here if you need us. Now, you’re in the home stretch. Let’s finish this.”

“Natural 20!! CONFIRMED!!!” Huginn throws his wings into the air and does a victory dance.

I lean in to Muninn, “Did the dragon just die?”

He shakes his head, “He’s dancing, that means the dragon ate the paladin.”

I snicker and raise my glass of tea, “Here’s to victory for us all!”
